We are organizing a two day conference at Kochi, Kerala in collaboration with The University of Southern Mississippi, USA on 12th and 13th of May 2008. The theme is “Private Enterprises and Sustainability in Tourism – Roads and Road Blocks”.
The conference is aimed at improved governance of the tourism sector with involvement of entrepreneurs.
First Day of the conference is kept for Case Studies written by students on real life innovative tourism enterprises.
The Second Day is for interaction of academia, entrepreneurs and policy makers.
DCSMAT is looking for colleges / educational institutions that would continuously participate in tracking sustainability initiatives in tourism. The case studies written by these colleges would be compiled for publication as a case book.
Ideally, the Cases would be written on real life tourism enterprises that are near the College itself. A group of 3 or 4 students under the guidance of a teacher could write the Case Study after meeting the entrepreneur / proprietor / managers. A Case Study of an Enterprise would normally consist of the following:
- History of the Enterprise
- What led to starting the particular enterprise?
- Problems faced while setting up
- Problems tackled while setting up
- Important events
- Turning points (For example, the firm had to shift focus from one market segment to another one)
- Services Offered, Type of Customers, Pricing, Distribution, Promotions, Infrastructure (Physical and Manpower)
- Performance over Years (If not confidential)
- Issues currently faced by the enterprise
- Future plans
An example of a Case Study on a Tourism Enterprise will be sent to you on request.
